These struggles aren’t just in your body or mind, they’re rooted in your nervous system. When your nervous system gets stuck in states of fight/flight/freeze or other survival modes, whether that’s from mental, emotional, or physical past or present trauma, it sends signals continually to stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol throughout your entire being.
This can perpetuate the very symptoms you’re trying to heal.
These survival signals lead to inflammation, increased blood sugar, cortisol imbalances, muscle contraction causing pain, deregulated immune function, poor digestive health and more.
Our bodies were actually designed to use stress signaling processes to keep us safe from threats and danger.
But in today’s world the “threats” surround us with massive amounts of stimulation, financial and work responsibilities demanding we keep up with this fast-paced world, chemicals in our environment, and so on.
Instead of moving, running, shaking, dancing and resting our bodies as we historically would to re-regulate, we push harder, keep going, keep reaching for supplements, try diets and cleanses, and often hit burnout and shutdown.
Somatic work helps you reconnect to the innate wisdom of your body
By reconnecting the mind and body, somatic work opens the door to uncovering and releasing trapped emotions, trauma, and stress that are stored in your body.
This process helps bring safety to the nervous system as it begins to recognize and process threat signals, rather than staying stuck in a constant state of alarm.
This is not a one size fits all healing method, rather, it’s designed to reconnect you with the language of safety and survival within your own body.
What Does a Somatic Coaching Session Look Like?
Our work as trauma-informed somatic coaches, and functional holistic practitioners with for over 7 years of experience adds a deep dimension to traditional physical and mind focused approaches.
A Somatic Coaching session is a very collaborate space to help you better connect and understand your patterns, habits, and wounds and how you respond to life while helping you learn how to partner with your body to bring safety and regulation to your nervous system.
Somatic work functions on the belief that the body knows how to heal. During your sessions, which are held through zoom, one of us (based on your preference of coach) will guide you through a process of connecting to physical sensations, emotions, and bodily experiences related to past or present stress or trauma.
As you tune into your bodies experience you will be guided through practices to support a shift or release of any physical tension, emotions, stress, or limiting mental beliefs.
The structure of session may feel like a mix of traditional talk therapy, but with the focus on the body, and a guided meditation journey.
Each session varies and is agenda-less, trusting your body to lead what is ready to be healed.
We typically work with clients through a series of sessions, as with all healing work it doesn’t happen overnight.
This work is deeply transformative. It is never about fixing yourself, but rather coming home to your wholeness, honoring every part of your journey, and reclaiming peace, freedom and worthiness.
